Winking Student

Hello sassy fans!! Hope your Monday is off to a good start! Today I have the adorable winking student to share with you and I made this...

...bookmark with her. I've kept her pretty simple since I figure you will want to be able to close the book, but I think she still stands out fairly well. This is actually my first corner bookmark and if you haven't made on already, you really should give it a go and they're great for using up scraps!

That's all for me today folks, but make sure you stop by later to see what Alina has to share with you.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Tuesday Spotlight

Today's Spotlight we have sweet
Who makes the most gorgeous Sassy creations..

She made this gorgeous card and tag for us with sweet Tammy on

*Start by telling us a little about you:
Hi I am Julia, I am in my early 30’s and Live in Inverness Scotland. I work from home as a secretary, so it’s great sometimes I can be at work in my Pyjamas but as long as I use my best telephone voice no one knows!! And nearly every spare moment I have is spent on crafting.

*When did you start card making and what made you start?
I have been crafting since I was a little girl, I first started with sewing, making my own hair accessories until I moved onto making my own clothes. I have done cross-stitch, cake decorating, knitting. I took art at school and was always sketching and painting.

I used to look at the “handmade style” cards in shops the type that had a bit of corrugated card and a paper flower, and I thought I could do that and it would save me money ... I started out with old wrapping paper dried flowers and wet glue. Then about 6 or 7 years ago my mum bought me some crafting goodies as a present and the obsession began from there. It hasn't saved me money, in fact it costs me a small fortune but I love it so I don't care!!

*What is your preferred coloring medium?
At the moment it is copic’s but I keep looking at the beautiful effect of Prisma pencils on Kraft so I think that is the next thing on my wish list.

*What is your fav Simply Sassy stamp?
Oooh this is difficult I love so many of them and as soon as I saw this question at least 5 popped into my head, so I have based this on the one that I have inked up the most which is High School Student, I have recently purchased winking student, and I think she could quickly catch up in the inking department!! .... I do Love the girls with the Glasses!

*How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?
I am a huge fan of Sugar Nellie , I follow the blog, and I am lucky enough to live about an hour away from Elgin the home of Sugar Nellie, so I was eagerly awaiting the release of the first Simply Sassy Stamps.

*What is your favourite style (card making)?
I don't think I really have a style, but I definitely have phases ... ie shabby chic or C&S ... I love it all, I think I most love masking, I enjoy trying to create whole scenes by using lots of rubber stamps.

*And what would you love to see more of at the Simply Sassy blog?
In the risk of sounding really corney, I love it just the way it is ...
I always love looking at all the inspiration and the tutorials.

Here are some of the amazing Sassy creation you can find in Julia's blog but do go visit her as you really get a lot of inspiration looking through her blog!!
(yes it was really hard picking just a few to show you here!!)

Thank you Julia for letting us spotlight you!

Tuesday spotlight..

This Tuesday we have a sweet girl with an amazing talent for coloring with us.
meet

I asked her to make something for the Spotlight
and by that I'm thinking of one card or something..
So Bridget has really  spoiled us this time
Look at her gorgeous Sassy projects!!

Butterflies and Pigtails ,5th Avenue

*Start by telling us a little about you:
Hello, My name is Bridget, and I live in the wonderfully picturesque county of Cornwall, with my Patient Husband, our Malamute Buzz, and our two cats Nala and Jasmine, I have lived here all my life and I can't see myself living anywhere else, apart from maybe Scotland, the land of The House of Sugar.

*When did you start card making and what made you start?
I have always had an interest in art, but I have never been able to draw well enough to share with other people, so when I came across the craft channels on TV, and I saw the beautiful things you can make, it inspired me to have a go at making cards, at first, using Rubber Stamps, and then onto the many other forms of crafting, I then progressed onto blogging, about 18 months ago, and my eye's were opened even wider, by the stunning creations that I came across.

*What is your preferred coloring medium?
Everything....... lol, well, it depends on my mood, but I do go through phases, I might use Polychromes for a while, or Promarkers, but my favourite of favourites at the moment are copics, in particular sketch markers, I just love the range of colours you get, and the professional finish they give you, it makes you feel like you've accomplished something when you have finished your project,
I have just gotten hold of a set of Prismacolour pencils, I haven't done much with them yet, its a work in progress, but I do love the finish they give you when using them on Kraft card, so more to follow on that, lol...

*What is your fav Simply Sassy stamp?
Well how can I answer this question, I love them all, and I have all apart from 3 of them, but having thought long and hard about it,
I am going to have to say Amelia and all of the new Christmas stamps, lol, this is the most difficult question of all, lol.

*How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?
I first noticed the Simply Sassy Stamps, when Karen introduced us to Krista's artwork on the Sugar Nellie blog and I have been hooked ever since.

*What is your favourite style (card making)?

I don't think I've really got a favourite style, I do like clean and simple, but I also like to see lots of embellishments, so I don't really think I have a specific style, I like to change things a lot so not to get bored, I like shabby chic, though I can never seem to produce a very good end product.

*And what would you love to see more of at the Simply Sassy blog?
This is another hard question to answer, because it's difficult to improve on perfection, because I think you girls already do a fantastic job, what with all the fun blog hops, brilliant tutorials and wonderfully inspirational cards, so I had a really good think about what I would like to see added and that would be a Simply Sassy Challenge blog.

Here are some other gorgeous Sassy projects I found at Bridget's blog

Thank you So much Bridget for letting us spotlight you.
And please leave Bridget some sweet comments :)

Tuesaday Spotlight

This week we have a biiiiiiiig time Simply Sassy/Sugar Nellie fan in our spotlight.
Krista has even drawn her as a Sassy girl for her blog

And here is the sweet card she made for us

Using Amelia

*Start by telling us a little about you:
I am married with two gorgeous little girls who love nothing more than to fiddle with my craft stash if I let them!! We also have a cat who likes to play with my ribbon and get in the way when I am crafting, and we have just gained a kitten, who will no doubt also like messing around and getting in the way!

*When did you start card making and what made you start?
I started out scrapbooking in 2005 after our older daughter was born and I needed something to do other than change nappies! I made a scrapbook of our wedding and honeymoon, and then started a baby book for Ellie. One of my friends suggested making cards rather than buying them, and after some encouragement I made Christmas cards for the family that year. Then I found the DoCrafts forum and someone on there introduced me to a lovely pair of stamps, Maggie and Hamish .. and I was hooked on the HOS!

*What is your preferred coloring medium?
I haven't got a favourite, depends very much on my mood and the image I am colouring. I use pens (promarkers and copics), Distress inks and prismas. I tend to use my pens and prismas more on the Simply Sassy range, than the distress inks, although I use my inks to grunge the images up a bit!

*What is your fav Simply Sassy stamp?
Ohhh I haven't got a favourite, which ever is in my hand is my favourite, I love them all!!! I do have a soft spot for Amelia, Hippy Chick and Love a Latte though (but don't tell the rest of them, they might sulk!!).

*How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?
On the Sugar Nellie blog and I started following the Simply Sassy blog before it got going.

*What is your favourite style (card making)?
Again its really dependent on my mood ... I love CAS cards, but also all things Tim Holtz so the vintage/grungey look is a regular feature on my cards!

*And what would you love to see more of at the Simply Sassy blog?
That's a hard one ... its fantastic as it is, and I check out every post, the DT samples are amazing.

Here is some of the beautiful cards I found at Cathy's blog
but do go over there as i couldn't fit them all into one blog post..

Tuesday Spotlight

Hiya Sassy Fans,

As you Maria is MIA for the next few weeks, waving hi to you Maria and wishing you well, so I'm looking after the spotlights for the next 3 weeks and I'd like to introduce you to one of my fellow teamies Vicky Pass.  Vicky is an avid Sugar Nellie fan and just look what she has made especially for us,  Wowzers:-

And here's a little bit about Vicky:-

Start by telling us a little about you:
I'm Vicky & I've been married to Craig since I was 16 & we are the proud owners of 3 children, 2 blue ones & 1 pink one. The boys are 20 & 15 & my daughter is nearly 19 & suffers with severe cerebral palsy so requires 24 hour care so thats my full time job lol. My eldest also has a baby on the way so we are to be grandparents at the end of the year which we are soooo excited about.

When did you start card making and what made you start?
I started card making last April 2010 I had never been into crafts at all but there was a lot going on in the family & I had also lost my dad so needed something to occupy me. It was March & I came across a blog.........I had no idea what promarkers were, Magnolia I thought was just a colour & I thought Sugar Nellie was a sweetie or choccy lol. I brought some promarkers beginning of April a couple of Sugar Nellie stamps & some others & that was it........hook, line & sinker. I cant believe a year has passed already.......my hubby is also happy as it means I dont want to keep redecorating now lol.

What is your preferred coloring medium?
I'm addicted to Copics altho I spent most of my first year using promarkers but I do prefer Copics now. Altho I also like to use prisma pencils & distress inks......I like to be able to use any of the mediums, its incase I ever get bored lol.

What is your fav Simply Sassy stamp?
WOW......thats a toughie, how do I choose one? I will say Fairytale cus she was the 1st one I fell in love with & I'm still in love with her.......

How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?
On the Sugar Nellie blog, it was one of the first blogs I ever followed.....Sugar Nellie was my first ever stamp... I brought them on day of release & have done ever since lol.

What is your favourite style (card making)?
I really dont have a style I prefer it that way I make what I'm in the mood to make & I like to think outside the box & try new things all the time......I dont like to get stuck in a comfort zone lol. My brain tends to go into overdrive all the time lol.

And what would you love to see more of at the Simply Sassy blog?
To be honest I think its fab the way it is & now I think its great you adding tutorials on making things, I love to see what else can be made with card & paper.
So if its not broke dont fix it girls lol.........

And after having a nose through Vicky's blog here are some of her fabulous Simply Sassy's:-

Be sure to leave some Sassy Love and Thank you Vicky for allowing us to Spotlight you

Sassy Storage

So.. the day has arrived.. my FIRST EVER attempt at a photo tutorial. Please bare with me, I did do a trial run before I made the final project, but how well this is all going to go on the actual day.. we will have to see. LOL. I got this idea from Crafter's Companion. Sara comes up with such clever ideas, and I thought this would be the perfect thing to store those Sassy images ready to be coloured up.

I used Winking Student for this project, I gotta say, she is a cutie. I love her pose! She is available HERE from Funky Kits!

Introducing 'Mini Accordian Folder'..

Here is what you will need:

× x1 12"x12" sheet of heavy weight cardstock - I used Core'dinations
× x1 sheet of  medium weight cardstock - I used Rymans 200gsm coated cardstock
× Strong red tape and your normal adhesive
× Paper trimmer
× Score board
× x3 C6 envelopes
× Patterned paper - I used Basic Grey Basics White and Sassafras Indie Girl
× Your chosen Simply Sassy image - I used Winking Student

So, now you have gathered your supplies - let's start at the beginning, it's always a good place to start..

First, take your three envelopes and glue them shut - if you don't want to lick and stick, your normal adhesive would do fine. You then want to cut all three envelopes in half as shown..

Next.. take your medium weight cardstock and cut to 6"x4.5". This strip will form the 'accordian' part of the folder. You will need to score this strip along the 6" side at every half an inch. TOP TIP: score at every inch on one side, then flip over and score at every half inch, this way you will have scored opposite sides and this will help to make well creased mountain and valley folds.

Next, onto the front and back panels.. take your heavy weight cardstock and cut a strip 4.5" wide, continue to cut this into a strip 5.5" long and another 3.5" long.

Take the 4.5"x5.5" cardstock and score at 3.5" and 4.5" along the 5.5" side as shown..

Crease your scorelines, this will form the back panel and front flap of the accordian folder.

This is where you should be now:

Next up is adhering it all together..

Take the 'accordian' base and turn it so the two end panels are pointing up, apply some red tape (any strong adhesive will do) as shown and attach the back panel.

After you have attached the back panel, this is how the accordian base should look - apply more red tape to every other strip, this is where you will attatch the envelopes.

Now that my envelopes have been attached, this is how the folder should look. All that is left to do now is decorate the front cover, attatch it to the folder and glue the tops of the envelopes together to get the 'accordian' effect when you open it out.

I have my supplies out ready to decorate my front cover. I used Winking Student as well as some papers from Sassafras Indie Girl collection, I have stitched strips and added a sentiment on Kraft cardstock. Perfect.

Add a strip of red tape to the last strip on the accordian folder, apply some regular adhesive on the back of the front panel, leaving about an inch at the top to tuck the flap in, and adhere all to the very front envelope. Stand the folder up and ensure all envelopes match up. Apply a strip of regular adhesive along the edge of each envelope to attach them to each other - this will create the 'accordian' effect when you open the folder.

This is the final result.. each section (6 in total) can be used to house different Sassy images. Keep them safe ready for colouring, or you could have a few pockets dedicated to coloured images ready to use on projects if that's how you roll! :)

So there you have it. I do hope you give it a go and test drive the tutorial for me! If you have any questions, or if the photos aren't clear enough please let me know and I'll do what I can to help!

I'll admit - that wasn't as scary as I thought! Yipee. Keep your eyes peeled for another Sassy tutorial I have coming up very soon! xo Lou.
