Tuesday Spotlight

This girl we have in the Spotlight today is very much a Simply Sassy fan♥

*Start by telling us a little about you
 I am thirty years old and have been with my partner Ralf for 11 years now. We aren't married yet and we don’t have any children so far. But we do have 2 rabbits and 2 cats, so there is a lot of action around here anyway.
I work for a big IT company and am currently on my way to become a project manager. As I’ve never been the technical and science type, crafting is my way to balance myself and blow off all that creative steam I can’t use at work.

*When did you start card-making and what made you start?
I started card-making in January 2009. I actually never was much of a card-making fan, because I am not a huge fan of the 3D and decoupage style, which is still widely popular over here, but when I discovered some message boards and blogs where people shared their truly amazing works with stamps, I was hooked. Stamping really had everything I was missing with these other styles.
As for the reason why… probably because I like to make the things I give away myself. I have ever since I was a child. So I guess it was just a logical consequence that I would start making my own cards rather sooner than later.

*What is your preferred coloring medium?
Definitely Copic Sketch markers. I completed my collection in August and now have access to the full range of colors, which is absolutely amazing. (Though there are still colors that are missing from the range, can you believe that? LOL)
I also like to use my Prismacolor Pencils on Kraft Cardstock.

*What is your fave Simply Sassy stamp?
Now that question is just impossible to answer. I probably could name a favorite for each kit,

but out of all of them? Never.
But some of my favorites are: “Best Witches”, “Witches Cauldron”, “Winking Student”, “All Wrapped Up” and “Butterfly Girl”

*How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?
It took me ages. I first discovered them when Kit 6 was released on a friend’s blog. But I was in love right away and have fallen harder and harder ever since.

*What is your favourite card-making style?
I guess it’s a quirky style. I like to add lots of embellishments like flowers, punched butterflies, flatback pearls, flourishes and the like.
I also love clean & simple, but I am very bad at this type of card, therefore I just admire others who are amazing at that style. :o)

I love the blog just as it is. Just one thing I’ve been missing for the last several weeks: the tutorials. I really hope they’ll be back soon, because they really were so inspiring and fabulous. :o)

Good morning, ladies, here I am on Monday morning in place of Monday evening, I hope you don't mind! First of all, thank you again for taking the time to leave me those lovely comments, it's always a pleasure to read them! And sorry for the bad pictures, they were taken at 7.30 this morning, before I went to my work, but I promis you better ones later!

Today I have this project to share with you, and I was inspired by a very talented lady, Carmen, to make it. I found this on her old blog a few years ago and saved it by my favourites. It's actually very easy to make, you will need two pieces of cardstock, one of them 12,50x 30,00cm (scored at 15,00cm), the other one 9,50x30,00 cm (scored at 11,50 and 24,50cm) and then you have to glue them together.

The card ingredients:
Stamp: Sugar Nellie Simply Sassy Hippie Love;
Paper: Basic Grey;
Embellishments: brads from stash;
Tools: Die-namics from MFT.

*Start by telling us a little about you: 

I am thirty-something, married with four lovely children. I've always been crafty since as far back as I remember. As a child I'd sit for hours at the beautiful wooden desk my Dad made for me, making, painting, cutting and sticking. But my love of card making began almost 8 years ago. I wanted something to give me some 'me' time once the kids were in bed. I bought a small card making caddy and the rest is history!

*What is your preferred coloring medium? 

I have dabbled in various colouring mediums such as water colours, Distress Inks, and Prisma Pencils. I really like Promarkers but I absolutely could not live without my Copics! I LOVE them to bits and take them everywhere with me....even on holiday! 

*What is your fav Simply Sassy stamp?

I couldn't chose just one favourite Simply Sassy stamp, my favourite keeps changing! Right now It's 'Windswept' & 'Team Spirit', but I also have a soft spot for 'Missing You'. I just love her little face...it reminds me of my youngest daughter after she's been told off. 

*How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?

I have been a follower & fan of Sugar Nellie since day one, and first saw the Simply Sassy stamps on the Sugar Nellie blog. I must admit, I tried to resist them for as long as I could. I am a bit obsessive/compulsive when it comes to stamps. Once I start on a set, I can't rest until I have the whole collection. I did surprisingly well for a good while....but caved in eventually when the temptation became too much! 

*What is your favourite style (card making)?

My favourite style of card making is 'embellish it till there's no space left!'....is that a card making style? 

*And what would you love to see more of at the Simply Sassy blog?

The Simply Sassy Blog is great as it is, but I really enjoyed looking at the entries for the Header Comp....so maybe some 'just for fun' mini challenges where Sassy fans can share their inspiration?

It's a small card in a box, the pattern is a chocolate package; the stamp is of course the High School Student, but I used it to congratulate a friend of mine which in a few weeks will start to work in a new school as a Maths teacher, I thought the image looks like a young teacher as well!

*Start by telling us a little about you:
Hi, I'm Alina, I live in a small village in the south of Holland, I'm married and have a daughter.

*When did you start card making and what made you start?
I started about 12 years ago. I was looking for a new hobby, after years of knitting and sewing and embroidery. I had nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon and went to visit my SIL and she showed me some of her punches and hand-made cards. The next morning I bought my first two punches and some cardstock and from that moment couldn't stop anymore making my own cards.

*What is your preferred coloring medium?
Well, I love the colour pencils. I have a small box with Prisma pencils and lots of Derwents.

*What is your fav Simply Sassy stamp?
At this moment, without any doubts, the Retail Therapy: I just love her outfit!

*How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?
I can't remember this, but I must have seen them on the blogs which I follow.

*What is your favourite style (card making)?
I don't have one, I just like a card or another project, I visit so many different blogs.

*And what would you love to see more of at the Simply Sassy blog?
I've been following you for quite a while and I think everything is just fine: lots of examples easy to find because of the labels, blog hops and prizes, featured artists, so I can only say keep up the good work!

Simply Clean & Simple?

Hi Sassy fans, hope you're having a great weekend with some lovely weather, it's about due isn't it! For your inspiration today I have made a clean and simple card...well, my version of it anyway, I'm sure it's waaaaay too busy to really be CAS but I've given it a go ;o)

As I've already used all my Simply Sassy Christmas stamps I pulled out one of my favourite stamps from set 5, here's Hippie Love! I think she has such an adorable face and I just love her outfit, she looks so comfy doesn't she :D.

I live in Sheffield with my lovely husband and have two grown up children, Samantha and Kyle. I have a 3 year old Grandson, Bradley who I absolutely adore. I work in a school as a Cook and love it. 

*When did you start card making and what made you start?

I bought a scrapbook kit when my Grandson was born and progressed into cardmaking when I fancied making my own Christmas cards. I don't scrapbook much now as I am totally hooked on cardmaking and spend all of my spare time in my little craftroom. 

*What is your preferred coloring medium?

I love to colour with Promarkers & Derwent artist pencils blended with Sansador. 

They work so well together and give a lovely soft, blended look.

*What is your fav Simply Sassy stamp?

I love all of the Simply Sassy's but my absolute favourite is Hippie Chick, 

she was the first one I bought and is a pleasure to colour. 

*How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?

I first saw Simply Sassy's whilst blog hopping and just had to have some.

*What is your favourite style (card making)?

My favourite style is very fussy and fancy, I love to add lots of pretty embellies to my cards.

*And what would you love to see more of at the Simply Sassy blog?

Simply Squares

Hey there, thanks for stopping by today for my second installment of Sassy Inspiration.. ;)

This time I thought I would break out an older stamp that I hadn't inked up - Hippy Love, available HERE from Funky Kits. Isn't she gorgeous? She was a dream to colour (aren't they all?!) I love her hair - it's beautiful!

Some of you may know about the Facebook Group challenge that has been running all week - Squares from Scraps. This was the perfect challenge for a 'quilting' technique which can be done with paper with help from an intricate embossing folder.

Here is the card. A simple square Kraft cardbase which I have distressed using Frayed Burlap DI, I have also stamped a leaf design in Crumb Cake ink down one side. The 'quilted' area measures 3.75x3.75". I used a 1.25" square punch to ensure all squares were the same size and adhered them onto some standard thin computer paper to make one panel. I then put the panel in an embossing folder - Snow Cap by Sizzix for Basic Grey (okay, its a Christmas EF, but I won't tell if you don't..) and ran it through my CB. I then went over the raised surface with more Frayed Burlap DI and around the edges. I wrapped some SU! Old Olive taffeta ribbon around the panel and tied it in a bow - then adhered the whole lot at an angle to the cardbase.

I coloured Hippy Love using ProMarkers - if you would like a colour list, let me know - then fussy cut her out and placed on the 'quilted' panel. I custom made the stick pins to coordinate with the colours on the card and attatched them under the bow using glue dots.

I stamped the sentiment in SU! Old Olive ink with a mini alphabet set from Studio G, rounded the corner and added the smallest button I could find from Basic Grey. I then distressed the edges again using Frayed Burlap DI.

My first post as Simply Sassy Guest Designer!

Omgosh, I am so nervous & excited for today! So much so that I procrastinated on my card and JUST NOW FINISHED!!! I had a hard time choosing which stamp to use for my FIRST post as a Simply Sassy Guest Designer - so I finally chose Hippie Love as I've never colored her before and I just love her style - the flowers & braid are just so adorable in her hair. I feel like I'm a hippie at heart, I kinda have that free spirit inside me and I am pretty laid back. I had this Echo Park Summertime Collection already out on my desk so I decided to go with that as the colors matched how I colored perfectly and it's just a happy paper line because I am SOOOO happy to be a Sassy Girl! I got some new goodies yesterday so I just HAD to add strip of Tim Holtz Sketchbook Tissue Tape - I love the butterflies! You might also recognize the sketch - I followed the Sugar Bowl Challenge this week with their theme of Buttons as well as the sketch! I did turn it on it's side thought to accomodate the image better!

Hippie Love

Hello all you Sassy fans! Autumn here with your first Wednesday Inspiration post. Today I have a little Hippie Love to share with you.

She is just so much fun to color the possibilities are endless, I really got into it, lol. I even had the perfect,IMP, paper by BoBunny to go along with her. You'll notice there's a tag behind her, that came in a MME kit I got ages ago and just happened to match perfectly...and, yes, it even comes out. This is my first ever front pocket card, I'm so proud of me for doing something new, lol. That tag lightly says friend and I think I'm gonna let that be the sentiment. The flowers on the left are from WOC (green and pink colored to match)and the others are from my stash. The rhinestones are Imaginsice and were put on with my I-rock...really should use that more often.

Here's a close up. I just got the browns I used for her pants and I'm so loving them!! Now I'm wondering how I ever lived w/o them lol. I've been trying to add some more depth to my coloring, it seems to be paying off in some areas, but I'm hesitant in others. It takes me soooo long to color I'm not as adventurous with my darker colors, but hopefully with some more practice in this technique you'll see some better definition to my girls.

Last but not least, my copics! Not too bad considering how many colors are on her!

Believe In Your Dreams

Morning Sassy Fans,

Hope everyone had a fab weekend.  Mojo still hasn't returned but I'm sure it will once I have finished my mammoth sort out in my craft room, which I am pleased to say is nearing the end. I made by storage unit today using foamboard for all the scraps of 12x12 cardstock.  I had a huge storage box filled with odds and ends which overspilled and I never used to go in it. How wasteful!  So I have thrown out alot and I mean alot and made a storage unit for easy access to the colours so I will be using up my scraps before cutting into another piece of 12x12 cardstock.

Today's card  is a special card.  I saw the post on Michelle's post reaching out to all us crafty bloggers to put a smile on Haeli's face through a card drive.  If you havent read the post, Haeli is a 12 year old girl going through the trauma of a rare type of ovarian cancer and is currently under going chemotherapy.  So I decided to use "Hippie Love" available HERE from Funky Kits, and make her a really cheery card.  She is also into art so following my sort out I will be forwarding a few crafting items to Haeli.  If any of you would be willing to send a card to Haeli the address is on Michelle's blog.

I have distressed the edges and added walnut stain and stardust stickles.  I cut the flowers out from the paper and added some glossy accents and brads to the centres.  I also cut out a few quicktutz doodad flowers and dotted here and there.  She really is a flower power girl, don't you think.

I hope she puts a smile on Haeli's face.

something old, something new, something blue...

Happy friday to all of you! It´s me, Kathrin, and even if you might expect it after reading the title of this post this is not a wedding related post. ;O)

Today I want to share you an all BLUE card using one of the OLD images. Okay, I don´t really think you can talk about this being old but at least it´s from one of the previous releases.
The name of this stamp is

Romantic Dreamer

and she´s not coming all alone. No, she brings her cool friend Lost in Thought, that I used on the boy card in this post.

I used these Copics to color the image:

The papers are by Magnolia, DCWV and K&Company and they go perfectly with the Marker numbers I picked. I added two flowers, the big bow, some half pearls and the charm was the perfect find to go with the image. As I needed something to surround the image but wanted to keep the focus on the images instead of the decoration I went through those boxes I have all over my room and found that swirly silver stuff that is left over from christmas... In Germany we call this angels´ hair but sorry, I don´t know the english word for that. I rolled the ends between my fingers to make it stay together and attached it under the flower petals to my card by putting there a little glue dot.

about 2 weeks ago for a carnival themed challenge.

The colors I used are quite unusual for me but when I think of the 70ies I think of orange and green so I decided to give these a try. And - surprise - I like the result! These are the Copics I used for the coloring:

The papers are by First Edition Papers and My Mind´s Eye and I used my computer to make a matching sentiment.

For my inspiration card this week I have made a card with Hippie Love.

Simply Adorable

Good evening Sassy friends!  For my inspiration post today I decided to alter a little notebook I picked up a few weeks ago.

I used the Hippie Love image and she was so much fun to color.  Isn't she adorable?  I love her outfit, especially the jacket with all that fringe.  I colored this sweetie with copics and colored pencils.  I added some StarDust stickles to her string of hearts and used a glaze pen on her jacket buttons.  I added some flowers and ribbon to finish my notebook.  This notebook is for my 13 year-old niece and I know she's going to adore Hippie Love.  You can find Hippie Love and all her sassy friends at Funky Kits.

Hi there Sassy Fans,

WOW my very first post, nervous.....  What an amazing tutorial by Maria, will definitely be using that one!  And NOT long now till our HOP WHOO HOO getting excited it's going to be so much fun!  But before all that I think I have kept you in suspense long enough.  When I seen the images I was just in LOVE with them all but one stood out a little to me as I am hippie girl at heart and clothing, lol.... Meet "Hippy Love"
