Sassy Ornament

Hello wonderful sassy fans!! How are you this Monday? Well, I hope! We had a beautiful weekend here(minus the earthquake that scared the bejeebers out of me) and I hope yours was well too. I was thinking about what to make for today's post and I recently made a cute, simple , yet effective ornament that my kids will give as teachers gifts and I really wanted to make more...I actually had a lot of fun doing it. So, here it is...

and if you want to make your own like this you will need:

1 Sassy image(I used Puppy Love)

Spellbinders Nestabilities:

Large Circles-largest one

Lacey Circles-largest one

cardstock

lightweight cardboard(I recycled a waffle box)

ribbon/trim 

glue

First you will need to cut and color or vice versa your stamped image with the large circle die. Second cut out one each of two different colors(or different shades of same color) and one cardboard piece with the large lacey die.

Choose which of the two colors will be the back color on your ornament and attach it to the cardboard piece...if your recycling like I did make sure the designed side is the one getting the tape as the other will be seen. Now place the remaining lacey piece  evenly on top of that piece then turn until the colors are every other like this...

Now you can hold one side and tape the other then switch Next, center your image on top of your collective lacey pieces and tape down. Flip it over and apply a looped hanging string of sorts(ribbon or whatever) to the back. Next, again using the large circle die cut a circle out of your cardboard and place it centered on the back to hid the ribbon that doesn't need to be seen. If you used something a little thicker and have a pretty rounded trim and some pop up dots you can put the trim around the edge of the circle and the dots somewhere central before putting it on the back, like this...

Simply Sassy Snowglobe Tutorial

Hello Sassy Friends! Autumn here with your first Monday inspiration and I've made a special card and tutorial for you. I came up with a snow globe, shaker, easel card last year and I thought with Christmas upon us you all might enjoy some instructions for that.  I also decided I would attempt a video for this and well, lets just say it's not perfect, but it's my first time, so please bare with me. Tammy in my rendition. I am so sorry for the terrible pics of this, but I was having problems with You Tube and by the time I could take the pics it was really dark out. I will take new ones tomorrow. Imagine with  and some blue papers and you'll get the idea :)

Here are the templates you'll need and the background paper I made and used. Just click on these to make them normal sized and then save. I had a little trouble getting the back globe piece and the circle to match up, but that may just be my printer. If it happens to you, just match up the circle with the lower half of the back piece and you should be good to fo. My apologies in advance, I don't know why it just wouldn't work for me. Oh' also you want to cut on the outermost edge of the circle and the inside edge of the globe base.

*** edited to add*** I figured out how to make the shape in psElements, so the above is the correct size and shape. Cut along the outside lines and round the corners at the bottom and you're good to go. This is in PNG, but if it's needed in jpeg please let me know.

And now on to the videos. Yes, that's plural, as there are several steps involved, but none of them are longer than 10 min :) I will apologize in advance for the number of times I said "ok,so" apparently this has replaced "um" in my vocabulary and my dog and the kiddos got in the way a couple of times, but I just didn't have time to start all over. Oh' and let's not forget I said snow once and actually sounded like those people on FARGO...I couldn't believe that one!!! I really apologize for that!! Alright then, let's hope this works!!

Simple Chalked Cloud Tutorial

Good Morning!

Paula here with my second Sassy post!!

 Before I start I'd like to say a HUGE thank you for all the lovely comments that were left on my first post... its so lovely to get feedback!

I decided I'd share a little tutorial on how I create chalked clouds...

Now I know there are better ones out there, BUT this is so easy !!

(Even my husband followed it, just from the pictures!)

Firstly, I punch 2 different sized flowers from scrap card... 

(really, you can use any flower punch, as long as the petals are rounded, or even a scalloped edge nestie could do the trick) these are 1" and 2" 6 petal flowers

 Next , I cut each flower in half... 

this step is a little tricky to see in the photo, but basically, I assemble all the cut pieces so that the 'petal' edge resembles a cloud shape that I'm happy with ...

(secure with tape)

Take whatever shape you want to use as your chalked background...

Starting at the bottom right, hold the template securely at whatever angle you like, and chalk in circular motions across the top edge.

(excuse my not showing you the chalking bit... I do this bit with my finger *blush* and I'm sure that's not going to look pretty!)

Remove the template, and reposition at the bottom left, and chalk again! not the full length this time, stop when you touch the chalk line from the first bit...

Then position the template in the middle above the two sides you've just chalked..

make sure the existing chalk lines are visible... so that you chalk up to them, and not above them.

repeat the steps until you reach the top (right, left then middle)

And thats it!!

at this point I draw around the edge with a fineliner, but thats optional ;)

Tips!

Keep the template... then you don't need to make another!

blow away excess chalk after each section, otherwise it smudges!

Merging your Rubber Stamps with your Digital Stamps

Hiya Peeps,

I have written this tutorial for those wanting to try merging digital images with your existing rubber stamps. I have used Word but the principal should be same with whatever package you are using.  Please note all pictures will expand when clicked on.

In word you have two ways of bringing your image in. Firstly by copying and pasting. Go to where your digital image is saved on your computer and right click.  Choose Copy.

Open up a new page in word, right click and choose Paste, or a quick way to do this is to press the control key and "V".

Now your image is on the page you will want to be able to move it around.  Right click on your mouse, Choose Text Wrapping and then Square.

OK, now you are free to move your image around the page but you may need to resize.  You will see the square around the image.  Right click on the top left hand corner of the box and Wthen hold down the left click button on your mouse and move it up or down to resize.

When you think you have it in the right postion print out on paper, not your stamping card.  I then put my image against it to see if I have the right height.  Adjust as necessary for your image.  Once I have it in the right place I need to mark where I will need to stamp my image.

 
 

 Now you need to get out your stamping card.  You may want to test different cards with the inks in your printer.  For printing digi's with my HP printer I have to use the cheapest black ink I can find.  It is all down to the pigment in the ink.  If I use the original ink, then it smudges with my copics.  I also set to print on draft but again your printer may be different, so please experiment and don't give up.

Place your draft copy with the mark in position on top of your stamping card.  I use a very sharp pencil to go through the marker and pierce the paper and inserting the dot onto the stamping card. This is where I will need to stamp my image.

Stamp your image where you have marked.

 

Now yo need to mask off your image.  You will need a masking tape, I have used woodware, staz on ink, this is important and the only ink you can use on shiny surfaces and of course your choice of image.  Stamp out your image using the staz on onto the masing tape/film and cut out.

Match the mask over your stamped image on your cardstock and you are now ready to put the image through the printer to add your digi background.

Remove your mask and you are now ready to colour.  Be careful when removing your mask as the printer ink on top of the mask will come off on your hands and you do not want to get this over your image.

And here is my finished card. 

 

 

Again I have had drawn the clouds and used B91, B000, C1, C3, C00 

I have embossed the doily and dragonfly with moonglow embossing ink, so it changes from a blue to a gold colour in the light.

Simply Sassy Traveler-Tutorial

Hello All!! Autumn here, with your tutorial Thursday and today I'd like to share something I created myself. Some of the girls on the Dt thought this would be a great thing to bring along with you on a trip somewhere, hence the name, but it can be a great gift for anything. So, here is my Sassy Traveler...

And if you follow along with me today I'll show you how to make one too!

First, here are you basic needs:

Sassy images: 1 for the front, 1 for the matchbook, and more(wouldn't recommend more than 6) for the inside of the matchbook.

3 pieces of STRONG cardstock(I used tag board) cut to:

7&1/4, 6&1/2, and 6&3/4

(these will make up the base)

1 pc STRONG cardstock cut to 4&1/4 x 11&1/2 

(for matchbook)

4-6 pieces paper cut to 4 x 5&1/2

(for images)

Strong adhesive, scoring board, perforator, ruler, eyelets or string,etc(for matchbook closure)

Let's begin by scoring our main pieces:

 

When finished fold on the lines and prepare them for adhesion. 

Here is how I applied my tape. Next you will want to put them together making sure the both of the in center pieces sides are on the inside.... Thus making your edges flush with the back of the card.

Should look like this when done. Sorry for all the junk in the background, there really wasn't a good place to photo this.

Next, the match book. We will again begin with scoring.

I'm not sure you can see that very well, so score at:

1/2",5/8", 6&1/8", and 6&1/4"

Next, perforate the papers you have already cut for your images to 1/2" from the bottom

 

After they are all perforated line them up together and choose where you would like your holes making sure they are about central in the 1/2" area but it doesn't really matter how close they are.

 

Then cover with the match book and punch holes into that and insert something to hold steady. I recommend eyelets as string can be to flimsy when tearing out the pages, but if that's all you have it will work.

 

It will look like this when finished.

Now you can decorate all the pieces how you like, just keep track of your openings and don't stick down the very front just yet. When it's all decorated you'll want to find a good way to either make sure your markers/colors stay put or make them removable. I had planned on using velcro this time around, but couldn't find it, so I opted for magnets. This...

 ... is what that looks like. I like this ides too cause if the child wants to take them out the matchbook and the markers will stick together.

Lastly, here is a closer view of how I decorated my message page and my matchbook...i like to leave that uncolored for older children.

Now, if your project is kind of heavy you will probably want to a ribbon around the whole thing...why I told you not to tack down the front just yet, but if you can come up with another way to close it, by all means go ahead. If you think your good, then you're done, tack on the front and all finished. If you do the ribbon you may want to add another piece of paper to the back to help hold it in place.

Tutorial Thursday at Simply Sassy

Hello Simply Sassy fans!
It´s time for another tutorial thursday and today I am showing you how to add depth to a paper pieced image.

You´ll need:
*patterned paper
*ink pad
*stamp (I used Retail Therapy here)
*your favourite coloring medium

Start with stamping your image on the cardstock you usually use for stamping/coloring and once on each of the different patterned papers you want to use. There´s no need to stamp the image twice, I just want to show you two different coloring mediums here.

I usually use Copics for coloring.
Pick the colors that match your paper best. Make sure to do a little testing on the paper since markers may look a bit different on the different papers. Doing a test will also give you the feeling how the color blends on the paper since this varies as well.

I picked some green patterend paper and started with YG-97 as the darkest color. Add just a little bit of color to the areas that will be the darkes on your image:

I then went on with YG-95:

YG-93 was the next color I used.
I did not cover as much of the dress as you would for a normal image since I want to see that it is paper pieced. The color I am adding is just for shading:

I picked YG-91 as my lightest color and added this with little strokes, that got lighter when I cam to the center of the image. So I am able to blend everything together but still don´t cover all the pattern on the paper:

The next paper I picked was a light beige one. Here you can see how I tested different markers on the upper right corner until I found the combo that worked best for this paper.
I started with E-43 for the darkest areas:

...then went on with E-81:

...and finished with E-40:

The 3rd paper I wanted to use was off white with a very fine brown pattern. Usually the E-43 to E-40 would have been my first pick for this but since I used those colors already on the beige paper and I wanted this one to look different I went with some warm beige. I started with W-4:

went on with W-3:



and finished with W-1:

Then I took the stamped image on the regular cardstock and colored those areas in that won´t be covered by patterned paper:

I cut out the shaded pieces of the patterned paper and glued them to the image on white cardstock (picture taken in the middle of the process):

You can do this shading also with Prismacolors. They will give a softer look.
Start with some green color, add it to the darkest areas and blend it towards the middle of the image/area:

Then use a black pencil and only add a little bit of color to the areas you want to be the darkest. Then carefully blend this as well. Take care to not blend it too wide towards the center:

And here you can see the difference between those both mediums. I´ve only done the green parts with Prismacolors but I guess you are able to compare those on the picture:

And these are all the Copics I used, including the ones I used for coloring the image on white cardstock:
