Spotlight Tuesday

Morning Sassy Fans,

In the spotlight today we have

If you pop over after you have finished reading this post you'll notice that Deb is a real sugar addict with lots of sugar nellie creations to feast your eyes on but her newest addition to the clan is the Simply Sassy girls and I can tell ya Deb won't disappoint.  As you'll see below Deb only started her blog a couple of months ago so I know you Sassy fans would give her a warm welcome by leaving a comment on this post and maybe taking the time to check her fabulous blog out, but before you do here's what Deb created for us today....

When did you start card making, and what made you start?
Hey there! my name is Deborah & I live in Manchester, England with my boyfriend Jayse & my beautiful baby girl (whos actually 4 this month!) I'm so thrilled to have been asked to do spotlight for Sassy stamps as Sugar Nellie is one of my absolute favourite stamp companies & this newer Sassy collection is right up my street!

I've actually worked in the Dance & Theatre industry, teaching, performning & running my school for the past ten years, but recently decided to have a change of career & closed my school down. I did Art & Design A-levels before going into dancing & have always been creative & love using my hands, so when I stumbled across Papercrafting just over 3 years ago - it just seemed the perfect match for me & I was instantly hooked! I come across Simply Cards & Papercraft magazine in my local newsagents which was a major catalist & inspired me immensly, 2 years later I then won their 'Papercrafter of the Year' competition & now do commissions for them.
What is your preferred color medium?
I'm really into stamping & the vast majority of my cards feature this in some way. My prefered colouring medium is Distress Inks - I love the soft muted shades & different effects you can achieve with them. Although since I've been on a few design teams & needed to work with digital images more - I've just invested in Copics & am enjoying playing around with them, although I've not quite properly mastered them just yet! But defo enjoying the learning curve.
What is your fave Simply Sassy stamp?
My fave Simply Sassy stamp is the first one I bought wich is 'Fabulous Darling' which I've used for one of my cards below. Although when I was looking to purchase 2 more for this spotlight I had such a tough time narrowing it down to 2 as they're all just so fab!
How did you notice Simply Sassy stamps for the first time?
I first noticed the Simply Sassy range when having a look through the 'Funky Kits' site which as I'm sure you all know supplies for Sugar Nellie. I love Sugar Nellie stamps anyway & some of these are amongst the 1st stamps I ever bought & I learned how to use my Distress Inks on them. They've seen many a disaster as well as a few I'm really proud of. So when I found out about a new range I was really excited & it didn't dissapoint...yeah I reckon Sassys'll be takin there place in my fave stamps top spot & staying there for some time!!!
What is your favorite style of cardmaking?
My favourite style has to be shabby chique & distressing in a pretty pastel colour scheme. I used to love how you could create such completely different looks with each make, but more & more I'm becoming obsessed with 'finding my style', like a signature look thats easily recognised & I find myself really admiring crafters whos works are very distincive to them, I don't think I'm quite there yet - but since I set my blog up 2 months ago I feel like I'm getting onto the right track!
What would you love to see more of at Simply Sassy blog?
To be really honest I only come across the Simply Sassy blog very recently through doing this post, but absolutely lovin it & will be visiting regularly from now on. I suppose I'd like to see more shabby style cards as I think it really suits the sassy range more than you might first expect.

Here's the card that enticed me to check Deb out.

She certainly is Fabulous Darling!

Please leave some love for Deb and check out her fabulous site HERE.

Thank you Deb for allowing us to put you in the spotlight.

Have a good week everyone.

  5. Congratulations. Like Juls I have not seen Deb's work & wouldn't have but for this. I really identify with that searching for one's own style & am very sympathetic to the Shabby Chic style myself. The first is my favourite - I shall have to get my head round making some of those roses.
